We know you work hard to make every day special for the people in your care, but coming up with new ideas for activities can be difficult. With Easter quickly approaching, we wanted to share four great ideas to celebrate the occasion.
1. Easter Egg Hunts
Chocolate is so much sweeter when you work to find it. Ask permission to hide chocolate eggs in your client’s home, then send them off to find the hidden treats. If they don’t like or can’t have chocolate, try hiding little yellow toy chicks instead. This activity doesn’t need to exclude people with physical disabilities, either. Pick a position in a room for them to sit in, and hide all the eggs or chicks in plain sight from that position, then pick them up for the client once they’ve spotted them. It can be a real challenge if you’re creative with your hiding spots.
2. Egg Painting
Egg painting can be a nice and calming cooperative activity if you share an artistic side. Besides paint and brushes, you’ll need a pin, bowl and skewer to hollow out the eggs. Your client may need help with this step, but you can paint them together and apart. Even if you’re not the world’s best artist, your egg can be a lovely memento of your time together.

3. Baking with Chocolate
If cooking for themselves is one of your client’s goals or interests, Easter offers a great opportunity to learn new skills. Chocolate brownies are a favourite for anyone with a sweet tooth, while rocky road can be an exciting challenge that gives clients complete control over their fillings. If you have these cooking skills, now is a perfect time to share them and cook as a team. Spending time in the kitchen together is not only productive and informative, but also gives tangible and delicious results.
4. Visit a Petting Zoo
Many petting zoos and animal sanctuaries have rabbits in their care. If the person you’re supporting has a soft spot for animals and likes to be out and about, holding a real rabbit on Easter Day can make the holiday all the more special. This can be a big outing, so be prepared and call ahead to ensure the petting zoo is open and accessible to your client’s needs.
These are just four of our bright ideas to make the holiday more special. Remember to ask your clients what they want to do and tailor your activities to their needs.
And above all else, have a great Easter!
